Hotline's phones are staffed by volunteers of different ages, races and
backgrounds - but they have several traits in common: they are
understanding, emphatic, friendly and committed to helping individuals
and families who are challenged by problems they cannot solve

All volunteers receive rigorous professional training to develop their
listening and crisis-intervention skills and a panel of mental-health
professionals is available to advise them when needed.
